Excerpt from The Star : Accused by warden of ‘coupling’ in car while waiting
I GRADUATED from the International Islamic University Malaysia Indera Mahkota campus together with 10 other friends recently. On March 3, we planned a farewell dinner.
My friend and I went to fetch a female friend from her college at about 8.30pm before we drove together with other friends in their respective cars.
While waiting for others to arrive, a female warden suddenly burst out of nowhere and started to accuse us of acting against Islamic rules.
I asked her what’s wrong with our action and which Islamic rule that we had broken.
She accused us of sitting together, male and female, in a same car. What’s wrong with that? I asked her what’s wrong with us car pooling, when we were heading to the same dinner spot.
We are not doing anything immoral inside the car. We are friends who had just graduated and want to have dinner together. We even car-pooled to have more time to chat.
But she accused us of having an affair or ‘coupling’. I protested as the accusation was so cruel because we were not even a couple.
It’s so embarrassing that the university is hiring this kind of staff who couldn’t even differentiate between right and wrong. Islam taught us how to behave when interacting with the opposite sex and that’s what we did. We were all old enough to know what’s wrong and right.

Chunguy says: The university has the title ‘International’ to its name but so sad it hires such sub-standard single-minded staff.
